Pressing Pause

Sooooo….I didn’t make my Book Deadline this weekend.
But I’m CLOSE!
So until I can get my chapters in, I’m pressing PAUSE on Nuvement.
I hate to have to do that, but if my Artificial Deadlines don’t have Real Consequences, it’ll never get done.
In the meantime :: If you are of the Praying Persuasion - I will take any and all of that.
Hope to be back up here ASAP!
See you on the other side…

Artificial Deadline…Real Consequence

Right now I am in the process of finishing my Second Book “Four Small Words“. It’s the entire story of God in just Four Small Words.
I’m really excited about what the book is becoming. Over the next few months I’ll be sharing segments of it with you to get feedback and input.
But before all that happens…I have to finish it!
So. Here’s what I’ve done. I’ve created an ARTIFICIAL DEADLINE for myself with a very REAL CONSEQUENCE.
I have till this Friday at Midnight to turn in the next Four Chapters. If I don’t…this Blog goes dead till I do.
I am really loving what’s happening here. I love how it’s forcing me to be creative. I love how it’s fostering nu conversations, and nu voices…that’s why it has to be what I Wager. As a Artist // Creative Type, I have to have a REAL CONSEQUENCE, or it will continue to float around in the ether never materializing on it’s own.
I’ll keep posting this week and will keep you updated as to my progress. I’m excited by the challenge and am throwing up in my mouth thinking about what it will take to get it all done!

It’s been One Week since you looked at me

It’s been a full week now since Nuvement launched. And I love what is already happening here.
I’m loving the comments that are coming in and the conversations and connections that are starting to happen.
I’ve been working hard to keep my blogoals and to keeping my commitment to my family to not get totally consumed by this thing. I’m gonna keep doing my part, but here’s what YOU can do:
Subscribe to Nuvement through an RSS Reader. I use Google Reader. It’s the easiest and most integrated reader you can find. If you follow more than one blog…you need an RSS Reader.
If you haven’t already done so, register at Intense Debate It will make your comments more complete. And it helps us know who you are and gets peeps to check out what you’re working on. It takes 3 minutes to register. We’ll be glad you did.
Finally, if this is first time signing up for either of these let us know in the comments. We will show you mad love and welcome you with open arms.
I’m excited to see where this whole thing goes. We’ve got some fun new things coming down the wire in the next few weeks. I’d love to have you be a part of it all.
Stevens out.

I’m kinda like the A-Team
If you happen to be at Nuvement on a Saturday, you’ll notice that I’m kinda hard to find…underground…MIA…gone dark…Black Ops…kinda like the A-Team. The only difference is that instead of rescuing orphans from an evil drug lord with highly explosive jeeps just across the border of Mexico, I’ll actually be chillin.
The only way for Nuvement (and my life for that matter) to be vital is to program Sabbath into it. To stop. To rest. To free myself from feeling like I have to say something. It’s for me. It’s for my family. And ultimately it’s for you.
It’s a discipline. One that I fail at more than I succeed. One that is esspecially difficult as I’m getting Nuvement off the ground. I feel the temptation to work the crap out of this thing. To do whatever it takes to see Nuvememnt become what I envision it to be. But I love my soul, my family, and the idea of Nuvement too much to not walk away from it every week. It forces me to further trust this thing to God.
Difficult? Yes.
Over Spiritualized? Maybe.
Necessary? Most Definitely.
What about you :: Do you have a rhythm of rest (sabbath) programmed into your life? What does it look like?
For those who drop a comment…you can enjoy this. If you click this without commenting, so help me, I’ll sick B.A. Barackus on your butt! Don’t make him pity you.
See you on Sunday.

Second…An Idea (part.two)
When what’s NEXT collides with what’s NOW you get something NU. Nuvement.com is about the connection, conversation, creation, and tension that exists at the intersection of NEXT and NOW. It’s a place to listen in on what God is doing around the world and in our lives and to talk about it together.
It is about connecting the dots.
It’s about hearing from Nu Voices.
It’s about not being so dang serious all the time.
If it’s not a conversation, if we are not engaging together…than this is just another one of “those” blogs.
Over the next couple weeks and months, we’re gonna be rolling out a lot of nu stuff. A lot of nu features, functions, voices, and oppertunities for you to engange at a nu level. The plans are big and the cement is wet. I’d love for you to be a part.
So here’s my question(s) for you ::
How many blogs are you connected to, and how often do you comment? ((BONUS - If this is your first comment ever on a blog (first time caller, long time listener) I will give you mad props!))

First…A Confession (part.one)
I can not launch this blog without first making a public confession :: My name is Jarrett Stevens…and for the longest time, I’ve made fun of blogs. I just didn’t get it. I couldn’t understand what the draw was.
I couldn’t imagine that people would ever be remotely interested in the fact that I ran 14 miles last week or that my cat makes the funniest face when I turn on my Dr. Juicer (editorial note: I did not run 14 miles last week, or any week for that matter, and I think that cats are always making cute and funny faces.)
The problem was simple – I hadn’t come across any blogs that seemed important or interesting to me. Blogs that are more than a microphone (or worse a MEGAPHONE) for some dude’s opinion about this or that. I hadn’t found any blogs that were provoking conversation, connection, and action.
Over time I stumbled across a few blogs and the people who were creating them (I believe they are called “bloggers”) that were actually doing something. Blogs that were trying to connect the dots between God and us and each other. I found a sacred few blogs that were actually conversational, that were challenging, that were creating culture instead of simply critiquing it, that were moving things forward…that were important. I was inspired.
After years of Mocking I decided it was time to start Making. If it’s possible that making a blog can actually make a difference in this world (as oppossed to just making noise), than I am more than willing to humble myself and get to work. And that’s what brought about this Nuvement.
So Here’s My Question For You ::
What’s a lame, boring, or uninspired thing that you are so tired of seeing on blogs?
