White Girl Can Jump

posted by Jarrettin My WorldComments

Our 10 month old daughter Gigi (aka - The Chunky Diva) has more energy than 10 x 10 year old boys.

We put this together to show you what we mean.

I KNOW…it looks very “America’s Funniest Home Video circa 1988″.  I happen to be a fan of that style!  enjoy.

My Web 2.0 Rock and Roll Fantasy

Last night Tripp Crosby and I got to catch CUT // COPY live in the ATL.  It was an incredible show.  Never have a seen four skinny white dudes from Melbourne hold a room down that well for that long!

What’s even more incredible is how I ended up at that show!

I first heard of CUT // COPY through a Tweet that I got from RCRDLBL

I liked what I heard so I went to Pandora and built a Station of their music.

I liked their music so much I went to Amazon’s MP3 store to get it.

It just happened to be one of their Friday $5 deals that day.

If it’s possible to wear out MP3’s, – I did.  So I checked out their MySpace Page to learn more about them.

I saw that they were coming to the ATL.  So I called my friend Tripp and we decided to check out their show.

Here’s what’s amazing to me…

  • Not once did I watch a Video on MTV (Video’s are the things they show from 2:00a – 3:00a, after Rock of Love)
  • Not once did I hear them on the Radio
  • Not once did a Friend tell me to check them out

This whole journey was prompted and facilitated entirely through the Web….my new best friend.

Where Is Black Man…

posted by Jarrettin My WorldComments

This morning while playing Superhero’s with our 3 year old Elijah, the following conversation took place…

shaftElijah : Daddy, where is the Black Super Hero?

Me : Which one pal?

Elijah : The Black one.

Me : What’s his name?

Elijah : Black Man.

Me : Black Man?

Elijah : Yah, Black Man.  He’s got that super cool car.

I looked and looked, but alas…There is No Black Man.  Just a bunch of Steroid Ridden White Dudes in Tights and Capes.  Why are all my sons Super Hero’s White…Dudes?  Where is Black Man?

Do Work Son!

This was a Big Week for me.

Wednesday – I worked with some College Students to frame a bedroom room in house ravaged by Hurricane Ike in Galveston, Tx.

Friday – I hung a Chandelier over our tub that we’ve been wanting to get and hang for over a year. I’m not really an “electrical” guy, but…I figured it out…without getting shot across the room.

Saturday – Jeanne and I built a Headboard from scratch that we’ve been wanting a to build for over a year. It took us about 4 hours of work, but it saved us about $800!

Why was this week so BIG?

Because I actually DID WORK with my hands. To most folks, it’s not a big deal, but for someone who can sit 8 hours in front of a laptop and call that “work“, it is very important for me to get callouses, to lift heavy things, to be sore, and to use a pneumatic nailer from time to time.

It’s good to WORK. It’s good to BUILD. It’s good to actually be TIRED from the right things.

I know you already know this…but this week, I needed to be reminded.

Your Turn :: What are you WORKing on right now?

Reason #417 :: Pee on a Tree

Elijah : Daddy, I have to go potty!

Me : Poop or pee, pal?

Elijah : Pee.

Me : Buddy, we’re at the Park…there’s no potties here.

Elijah : Daddy!  I gotta go now!

Me : Alright, let’s do this.

…a short walk up a small hill later, and my little boy took his first small step into a much larger universe.

I love having a boy.

Do you remember me…what’s my name?

posted by Jarrettin My WorldComments

hello-my-name-isIt happened again today.

Somone who goes to my church, who I’m friends with on Facebook, who I should know, cornered me and laid down the awkward gauntlet.  It went like this…

Me “Hey, how’s it going”

Her “Good.  Do you know who I am?”

Me “Sure…you’re…that girl…who likes to make things awkward…”

Her “What’s my name?”

She got me. I didn’t know.  I couldn’t remember.  Which, not to make this bigger (and more awkward than it already was), reveals two truths about me::

  1. I am a forgetful person to my core.  I’ll be honest, 5 minutes after she let me off the hook I already forgot it
  2. I am narcisitic and self-obsessed to my core.  Most times when someone introduces themself to me I am thinking about what I’m going to say to them next.  I’m thinking about what I’ll say about myself…if only they would stop talking.

I may have done it to you.  If so, I am sorry.  To forget someone’s name may seem like a simple social faux pau, but in truth, it is something much more.

To forget someone’s name is to be irresponsible with a part of who they are.  Your name is your most basic sense of identity.  And when I am too busy thinking of myself to acknowledge, honor…and remember who you are, I am in a small way showing you your value to me.  LeAnne may not have thought that in the moment…but I did.

Your Turn :: Please, no matter how many times we’ve met, always introduce yourself with your name first.  I’ll do my best to remember.

Honestly…I feel bad for other parents.

Especially when my kid does yet another thing more rad than all other kids combined.

This is our 3 year old son Elijah playing drums for the very first time this Christmas.  He’s quite good…if I do say so myself…

 I know…I know…amazing…

But, next Christmas…I’m definitely gettin’ that boy some TURNTABLES!

I love that Gigi is learning to walk from our dog Molly.  This girl loves this dog, and this dog….tolerates this girl.

So do yourself a favor :: Sit back, crank up the soundtrack, and enjoy the ridiculous cuteness!
