City or Suburbs…Where You At?

Just wondering where you live :: City or Burbs.
We live in Buckhead (a neighborhood in North ATL). We love it. Trough the trees in our backyard, we can see all the big buildings in our neighborhood. We have a heart to get even deeper into the city and raise our kids in as Urban a context as possible.
How ’bout you? Where you at?
What do you LOVE // What do you HATE about it?

Count the Cliches
It’s Inevitable – The Trends we follow, the Fashion we rock, the Music we listen to, the Things we are known for….over time….no matter how cool they seemed in the moment…become CLICHE.
It doesn’t matter how cool it seems, how important you think it is, how much you think it sets you apart…it’s only a matter of time until it becomes CLICHE. It seems that as soon as you become KNOWN for it, you open yourself up to be MADE FUN OF for it.
It’s the Deferred Billing that comes from Buying In to Culture.
I have a litany list of things from my own life that no matter how unique I think they make me…it’s only a matter of time till it’s nothing more than a CLICHE. (see my Soul Patch for reference)
SO…I figure… let’s be honest about it and have some fun with it!
Here’s what we’re gonna do :: Watch the following Video from Japan’s Rockingest, ONLY Hair Metal Band from the 80’s – LOUDNESS. This video is RIPE with some Amazing CLICHES! Epic Stuff.

9 Reasons NOT to walk out on Watchmen

While Watching The Watchmen this weekend I counted no less than 7 people WALK OUT in utter frustration.
There are many perfectly acceptable reasons for you to walkout of The Watchmen :: It is LONG, it is violent, it is dark, and there is a member of the blue man group walking around buck naked for half the movie.
It earned it’s R rating to be sure.
Aside from that…I would like to suggest 9 reasons why you should hunker down and not walk out ::
- It is unlike ANY superhero story you have ever seen. In the world of The Watchmen – With great Power comes great Depravity, (not responsibility).
- It is a TRULY Postmodern Parable. It is largely non-linear, “Good” is unsettlingly relative, and the end is not nearly as important as the middle.
- The Watchmen is recognized by Time Magazine as one of the Top 100 Novels of all time (it’s no Daredevil, but that must mean it’s pretty good).
- It’s more fun to watch other people swear at the screen as they stomp out.
- Rarely, if ever, has their been a shot for shot interpretation of an original literary work such as this.
- Zach Snyder’s trademark Fast / Slow / Fast never looked cooler (even without all the genetically engineered abs from 300).
- Watchmen gives you a glimpse a world truly void of hope. It is as sobering and tragic as they come.
- There are tons of subtle Nerdtastic metaphors and messages hidden throughout the movie (ie. as one hero is exacting his revenge on a former enemy, he walks by a prison laundry room with a sign that says “Do Not Cross Line”).
- Finally, you paid $10 per ticket plus $12 for the Pop Corn, Drink, and Sno Caps – In these tough economic times, can you really afford to walk out?
There you have it, 9 reasons you should tough this one out and give it a chance. It won’t change your life, but it may change your perspective on what a world without hope looks like and give you a glimpse into your own dark sense of depravity if left unchecked or unaccounted for. (sounds like fun!)
Your Turn :: Did you see it? What did you think? (BTW – Bonus Points if you’ve you read the book?)
If you made it down this far…you deserve this…

Jacko may never come Backo
I am (and always have been) a HUGE MJ fan.
I spent the better part of my freshman year memorizing and practicing every move from the video BAD.
Apparently, my devotion isn’t enough to keep the King of Pop on his throne forever…after 127 years of entertaining us, MJ is retiring. (something I just assumed he did 15 years ago)
Michael is performing just a handful of shows this summer in London to bring his career to a close. If Michael’s eye ducts could still organically produce tears, I’m sure they would.
So, it is with great sadness that I offer these three words…“ROAD TRIP, ANYONE?”
Shamon,
Jarrett

iPhone Cover Bands are the next BIG THING
We live in a Beautiful and Bizarre World…I have proof.
The Mentalists a British All Girl Band has pulled of a fairly decent cover of MGMT’s song Kids. You can read about it here.
Please watch the Original
Now, watch this COVER of it, done entirely on APPs from the iPhone.
What do you think? Is there a future for iPhone Bands? If so, will they be this awkward to watch? Talent Show Flashbacks filled my mind while watching these beautiful nerds.
Your Turn :: What song would you love to see covered by iPhones? If you video it, I will give you a free copy of my book – The Deity Formerly Known as God. (valued at $8.53!)

I’m really gonna miss the Beef Steaks…
As a kid I grew up with an unhealthy and ever-present fear of The Rapture. This was fueled by over exposure to Rapture Films at Sunday Night Church and a few too many Latch Key Afternoons.
In all my Pre-Millenial Paranoia, I never once stopped to think what the Soundtrack to that glorious moment might sound like….now I know.
I give you The Breakfast Song. Enjoy…while you can…
((someone please wake her up and tell her that she’s singing!!))
Your Turn :: What’s the One Thing you’ll miss most?
..:: I will definitely miss the Nuts of Grapes most of all.
