What do you DO when you don’t DESIRE

Your Turn :: What do you DO when you don’t DESIRE God?

Do you keep doing what you’ve always done till Desire shows up?
Do you wait till Desire comes so that what you Do is authentic?
Or is there another way?

to answer your question, I find that my being bi-vocational helps to fuel my desire for God. The constant interaction and new relationships that come from my two years as a freelance video producer has lead to more opportunity to talk about my own spirituality and to articulate the gospel than all my experience in ministry combined. I find myself falling so much in love with the broken mess of humanity that I'm a part of, and a desire to love well forces me back to dependence on God. I love the church and my faith community adds so much to my life but one thing it rarely does is fuel my desire for God.

i truly think there's something to be said for the moments when we simply want to want God. those days when i don't want God, but i know myself and Him well enough to know that i want to want Him or at least that i will want Him. i find that being honest with Him about that is monumental and not quite as scary as i once thought. there have been mornings when i have selfishly asked God to show me His love for me. can i see it? and i really believe He wants to show us that all the time. that He doesn't ever want to hide it from us. i just, then, have to open my eyes to what that revelation could be. but it's always there… and what's more, it typically throws me into His arms.

Wow. That last sentence has a ton to it –

I wonder how many other people would have the same to say. I'll bet most people co-dependently count on Church to fuel their desire for God.
Really interesting. Might have to explore that further.

GReat words Dee Dee. That truth of Gods deep love for me is always there, it's just so hard for me to quiet myself, still myself, and open my eyes to see it. But when I do…it's always there.
